Nancy Crego (School of Nursing and Health Studies) was inspired to experiment with lecture capture technology when her class Transition to Professional Practice was canceled due to bad weather. Determined to figure out a way to catch her students up, she experimented with using lecture capture technology to create podcasts for her students.
Nancy found that her students appreciated having lecture content available via podcast. This led her to reflect on how she might use lecture capture most effectively, even without the threat of bad weather. Now, she uses podcasts for content she used to deliver in lectures, which frees up class time for other activities such as group discussion or role-playing exercises with a neonatal patient simulator. The students appreciate the more interactive class format, as well as having the podcasts available for review. And now she knows that the class can continue seamlessly in the event of another unexpected disruption!
